Northumbria Branch Activities 2010

  • Saturday 23rd January 2010, The 'Soldiers' Charity', the Army Benevolent Fund, is holding a Concert of Musicals & Proms to 'Salute Our Heroes' at The Gala Theatre, Durham.
  • Thursday 18th February 2010 - Branch Council Meeting.
  • Wednesday 24th February 2010 - Annual General Meeting (details have been circulated to members).
  • Saturday 27th March 2010 - an 'Extravaganza' Book Launch, Three Course Dinner & Concert - was held at Rainton Meadows Arena, Houghton-Le- Spring, Tyne & Wear DH2 5PH, and the book 'My Son The Enemy' was launched - all profit from book sales will be donated jointly in aid of 'Help for Heroes' and the 'Army Benevolent Fund'. Northumbria Branch RSStG is supporting this charitable effort.   • Tuesday 30th March 2010 - Branch Council Meeting.
  • Friday 23rd April 2010 - St George's Day Proms is on at the City Hall, Newcastle Upon Tyne. This event is not organised by Northumbria Branch but we support it and some or our members will be attending.
  • Saturday 24th April 2010 - Festival of St George Northumbria Branch Annual Dinner was celebrated at The Northern Counties Club, Newcastle upon Tyne. (Photographs below courtesy of Mr Alex Nelson):

  • Sunday 25th April 2010 - St George's Church, Gateshead, was visited by members for the Sunday service.
  • Wednesday 28th April 2010 - Chairman addresses members of the Rotary Club of Whickham Clavering, and their wives, on the legend of St George & the Dragon, and The Royal Society of St George, at the Club's 'St George theme' evening meeting.
  • Sunday 16th May 2010 - Sunday Lunch at the Restaurant of Fern Avenue Masonic Hall, Newcastle upon Tyne. An excellent luncheon organised by our member Mr Eric Pyke.
  • Monday 24th May 2010 - Branch Council Meeting.
  • Friday 25th June 2010 - Following the successful the launch of David Hughes' book 'My Son The Enemy' three months ago - at a luncheon held by the Rotary Club of Chester-le-Street, Sir Paul Nicholson, Lord Lieutenant for County Durham, presented cheques of £6,500 each to Representatives of the Service charities 'Help for Heroes' and the 'Army Benevolent Fund' respectively, monies raised at the book launch and by subsequent sales of the book. The Rotary Club of Chester-le-Street gratefully thanks everyone who has purchased a copy of the book in aid of these two charities.   • Tuesday/Sunday 13th July - 18th July 2010 - a Gala Concert "Salute Our Heroes Past & Present", was held at the Sage Theatre, Newcastle upon Tyne, and "The Heroes Flower & Music Festival", at St Nicholsa Cathedral, Newcastle upon Tyne.
  • Sunday 18th July 2010 - Sunday Lunch (details have been circulated to members).
  • Wednesday 21 July 2010 - Bus Trip to York (details have been circulated to members).
  • Monday 26th July 2010 - Branch Council Meeting.
  • Tues 24th August 2010 - Branch Council Meeting.
  • Thursday 16th September 2010 - Battle of Britain Lunch (details have been circulated to members).
  • Sunday 19th September 2010 - Sunday Lunch (details have been circulated to members).
  • Thursday 11th November 2010 - Remembrance Day Observance in New York. All members of the Royal Society of St. George and affiliated associations are cordially invited to participate in the Remembrance Day Service that will be held in New York. Full details are being circulated to Northumbria Branch members in the summer newsletter.
  • Sunday 21st November 2010 - Sunday Lunch (details have been circulated to members).
  • Sunday 12th December 2010 - Christmas Lunch (details to be circulated to members).
